Screw conveyors have been in operation since the days of ancient Greece, when scientist Archimedes invented this conveying method as an improvement over buckets as a way to transfer water. Screw conveyors remain a common equipment selection for thousands of industrial and manufacturing applications that require an efficient, cost-effective way to move a variety of bulk materials from one process to another.

Many of our customers consider CDM’s custom-engineered screw conveyors to be an ideal solution for their bulk material handling challenges. Some of the reasons include:

  • They handle the full gamut of materials, from semi-fluid to dry and from sluggish to free-flowing.
  • Their multiple inlet and discharge points allow the efficient distribution of bulk materials to various locations.
  • Their operation consists of a single rotating screw, which equates to easier and less-frequent maintenance.
  • They transfer product inside a totally enclosed tube, minimizing hazards associated with corrosive and other dangerous materials

In addition to conveying, this versatile equipment can also be used to feed and meter bulk materials accurately and efficiently at fixed or variable rates. Our screw conveyors can be configured in a single- or multiple-screw type depending on required feed rate and hopper design; they can be equipped with variable frequency drives for multiple feed rates to downstream processes; and they can discharge bulk materials in mass or uniform flow with no bridging or rat-holing of the material in hopper.
